Hello
Alex Lim
City Church San Francisco
About Me
Alex Lim immigrated from Korea to New York at three years old and had a fairly typical immigrant experience growing up in the Korean church. After college, he and his wife moved to San Francisco for what was supposed to be a 2-year stint and never moved back. The pair are now raising two teenage boys in the Sunset District and Lim has been working in the finance world for over 20 years, advising and supporting companies in the biotech sector. Lim only started to engage with terms like “faith and justice” at City Church San Francisco. Pastors and staff at City Church encouraged him to engage with the challenges of the city and see how God could use him in the work He was doing here. “While heartbreaking most of the time, there are moments of incredible healing and hope that keep me here,” Lim says.
As Lim struggled with his own faith and the very real shortcomings of the Christian church, different priorities started to emerge in his life. Priorities such as getting to know oneself and God's love for oneself, as well as his love for others -- which were more important than what were the “right” things to believe and the “right” things to say.
“I’m excited to serve on the Faith and Justice board because we are trying to build a community of those that are in tough transitions, trying to navigate past theological baggage and seeking a new way forward, while desiring to share these experiences with friends on a similar journey. I hope to share my enthusiasm for this community by listening well to the needs and desires of its members and help as best I can along the way,” says Lim.
