NEW: Preaching Justice Fellowship

[UPDATE 5/1/24: We’re thrilled to announce the addition of Rev. Dr. Charlene Han Powell, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, to our team of cohort leaders!]

Building on over 15 years of work in spiritual formation and theological education, we are thrilled to announce an exciting new extension of our fellowship program, in partnership with San Francisco Theological Seminary: The Preaching Justice Fellowship. A year-long cohort experience designed for leaders committed to the work of justice through preaching, participants will experience a year of learning through workshops, mentorship, and opportunities to connect with peers in ministry.

The program will build on our existing spiritual and public theology curriculum at the Center for Faith and Justice by introducing five shifts for further consideration in their preaching:

      1. from triumphalism to lament
      2. from morality to dignity
      3. from certainty to mystery
      4. from superiority to mutuality
      5. from rhetoric to embodiment

By identifying justice concerns in each shift, the program will invite preachers to reflect on how they might meet their hearers amid the most pressing and enduring questions of our challenging times.

Thanks to generous funding from Lilly Endowment, participants will receive tuition and travel scholarships. Learn more about the Preaching Justice Fellowship here; and register for the info session at 12:00-12:30 pm PT on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 here.
