The entanglement of Christianity and race in the colonial period has led to harmful repercussions throughout American history. From the Civil War in the 19th century to the Cold War in the 20th century, Christianity became further enmeshed in white supremacy, empire-building, and numerous other political machinations. To move toward justice then will require reckoning with the myriad ways racial sin has burrowed deep into the fabric of American Christianity.
